Create a world full of stories and songs
- At this age children love to have the same books read over and over again so choose books that can stand up to hours of page turning. Board books made of thick cardboard or cloth or vinyl books are just the right size for your baby's hands.
- Provide books that have simple drawings of everyday objects, actions and events.
- Find books with simple stories that have one line of text per page.
- Find new rhymes, poems and songs to recite to your baby.
Connect your baby to stories and songs
- Read to your baby every day. Studies show that children whose parents read aloud to them, even as little as ten to twenty minutes per day, are more likely to become better readers.
- Continue to recite rhymes and songs that you can remember by heart adding in a new one that you have found every few weeks.
Make time to read and sing with your baby
- Make reading and singing songs a part of your baby's sleep routine or simply a moment to sit quietly together.
